§ NotesPress

For journalists and researchers

Every sentence on this site is written to be quotable. Here's how to use the data accurately.

Updated

What the data is

  • Anonymous, self-reported checkout results by US county, reviewed by a person before they count.
  • Published per county only at n ≥ 5 (surcharges) or n ≥ 20 (speeds), in a rolling 6-month window.
  • A separate press layer of dated news reports, never merged into crowd medians.

What it isn't

  • Not from Starlink or SpaceX, and not verified by them
  • Not a random sample: people who saw a surprise are likelier to report
  • Not a quote for any address

Accurate ways to phrase it

Good: "In Example County, the median demand surcharge in 7 reader reports from May to October 2026 was $X, according to crowd-reported data from Starlink Availability USA."
Avoid: "Starlink charges $X in Example County."
