Why Starlink can be slower in the evening

Evenings are when everyone streams at once. Starlink names a peak window; reader tests by time of day will show how much it matters where you live.

Updated

Quick answer· Is Starlink slow at night?

It can be. Starlink says peak hours are typically 6 pm–11 pm local time, when speeds may vary or be slower. How much slower depends on your area.

Morning vs evening, by county

Every speed test on the report form carries a time band: morning, afternoon, evening or overnight. No county has enough tests in each band yet, so there is no comparison to show.

Testing fairly

  • Run one test in the morning and one between 6 and 11 pm, on the same device and spot.
  • Pause other downloads and streaming while testing.
  • Note the obstruction % in the Starlink app.

Add an evening test

Evening tests are the ones people care about most. Choose 'Evening (6 pm–midnight)' for the time band.
